Catch Up With Leslie Browne – Mother Teresa
Leslie has performed in many shows and readings with the Hyde Park Community Players, including An Evening of Horror and Suspense, readings of The Bluest Eye, A Raisin in the Sun, and At The Hawk’s Well/Dreaming of the Bones. Her most recent main stage performance was as Bette in The Marriage of Bette and Boo.
It’s great to see you! What made you want to audition for The Last Days of Judas Iscariot?
I’ve been focusing on work and the little one, and I want to get back to THE THEATAH! When I heard Leslie was directing, I was like ‘this is it!’ The show is interesting and different. I’ve done a few staged readings and now I’m ready to get my feet wet with a full production.
You wanted a small/contained/manageable role, but during the same time frame you ended up also being cast in two staged readings, The Importance of Being Earnest and The Tapestry. Was that planned? How have you juggled that?
Somehow it’s been manageable. The staged readings just flow naturally, there’s no memorization and I can jump right in with people I’ve worked with before. I just told the universe I was ready, and I’ve been blessed that people are asking me to participate!

You are playing Mother Teresa. Is this the first time that you are portraying a historical figure? (Confirmed yes) How has that been?
I used Youtube as a reference for her accent and attitude, so I can try to reflect her how she was. But I have no idea what her reaction would be to these questions. I’ve learned so much from this show. It’s given me a lot to think about.
Do you feel a connection to your character?
Only in the sense of, Mother Teresa’s attitude – you can come for me, but I remain serene. Is that me? Absolutely not, but I aspire to it!
