#MonteCristo2020
Written and directed by Susan Harris & Bill Hohnke
is an original musical in progress which reimagines Alexandre Dumas’s classic 1844 novel The Count of Monte Cristo through the lens of the coronavirus pandemic. The show is narrated by the Isolator, who discovers Dumas’s novel in the spring of 2020 while on lockdown. As the novel comes to life, the Isolator guides herself and the audience through the story world, drawing strength and consolation from characters whose experiences of isolation and despair resonate with her own.
In this third and FINAL installment, the Count begins to avenge himself on the men who sent him to prison—and discovers that even the best-laid plans have unintended consequences. As the Count struggles to envision a life beyond revenge, the Isolator comes to terms with loss and finds hope for the future. Part 3 includes a recap of Parts 1 &2.
