Our 2017-2018 season has been chosen! Exact dates and venues remain to be specified, as does the outdoor Shakespeare production. We will also hold our annual An Evening of Horror and Suspense, directed this year by Shonte Wesson. Check the website and Facebook page for updates on auditions, performance dates and venues, tickets, and more.
FALL
An Evening of Horror and Suspense in the Old-Time Radio Tradition
Directed by Shonte Wesson
The HPCP continues its annual Halloween tradition with another anthology of tales of HORROR…and suspense! Players perform spine-tingling radio plays and adaptations of classic spooky tales, accompanied by live sound effects. An Evening of Horror and Suspense is a great way to get involved with the HPCP.
Rashomon by Fay Kanin and Michael Kanin, based on stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa
Directed by Bill Hohnke
The wife of a Samurai officer is assaulted and her husband killed by a roving bandit. Contradictory versions of what happened are reenacted at the trial by the bandit, the wife and the dead husband who speaks through a medium. It’s a powerful exploration of the meaning of truth.
WINTER
Collected Stories by David Marguiles
Directed by Paul Baker
An intense two-hander dramatizing the complex relationship between an older writer and her protege over a period of six years. Collected Stories will be performed in a nontraditional venue.
[We regret that The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, originally scheduled as our winter show, had to be dropped because we were unable to obtain the performance rights.]
SPRING
Anton in Show Business by Jane Martin
Directed by Laura MacGregor
Winner of the 2001 American Theatre Critics Steinberg New Play Award, this madcap comedy follows three actresses across the footlights, down the rabbit hole, and into a strangely familiar Wonderland that looks a lot like American theatre – the resemblance is uncanny! As these women pursue their dream of performing Chekhov in Texas, they’re whisked through a maelstrom of “good ideas” that offer unique solutions to the Three Sisters’ need to have life’s deeper purpose revealed. In the tradition of great backstage comedies, Anton in Show Business conveys the joys, pains, and absurdities of “putting on a play” at the turn of the century.
SUMMER
As You Like It by William Shakespeare
Directed by Corinna Christman
Our free outdoor summer Shakespeare tradition continues with this tale of romantic misadventure in the forest of Arden.
