October 4, 2020 Leave a Comment

Rehearsals are done and we’re preparing our 2020 “Radio Show” for release on October 30 & 31 on our Youtube channel.  Visit our Facebook page for details on how to be part of our audience for this year’s double evening of Horror & Suspense!

THE CAST & THE STORIES

Please meet our four scary stories and the actors that will bring them to you via the magic of radio.

THE WAR OF THE WORLDS by H. G. Wells

Adapted for radio by Howard Koch

It seems just like an ordinary October afternoon…until green flashing stars start falling to earth. H. G. Wells’s 1897 novel was adapted and updated to 1938 for The Mercury Theatre on the Air. Legend has it that the story was so compelling and its mimicking of the conventions of radio news so effective that some listeners believed it was an actual news broadcast. Fortunately, in 2020, we no longer have to worry about people confusing real news with outlandish made-up fantasies!

Henry James’s 1898 novella concerns a young governess who is hired to care for two orphaned children living at an English country estate. Cut off from help and advice, she comes to believe that the children are being haunted, and possibly possessed. Is she saving them from the forces of evil…or becoming their tormentor herself?

THE MACHINE STOPS by E. M. Forster

Adapted for radio by Susan Harris

In this 1909 novella, E. M. Forster imagines a strange and improbable world in which humans spend all of their time alone in their individual rooms, interacting with each other and the outside world only through the Machine. They’re nice rooms; and the Machine will bring you anything you want. Just don’t try to go outside…and don’t even think about life without the Machine.
