We’re very excited to be offering for our first mainstage production of 2023
THE ALCESTIAD
a play in three acts with a satyr play
The Drunken Sisters
by Thornton Wilder
(author of Our Town, The Bridge of San Luis Rey, The Skin of our Teeth, The Long Christmas Dinner and more)
March 3-5, 10-12
at University Church , 57th & University
Thornton Wilder called The Alcestiad “a mixture of religious revival, mother-love-dynamite, and heroic derring-do,” and he wasn’t kidding. As Alcestis searches for the meaning of life, we encounter gods (Apollo, Hercules, Death, the Fates) and prophets (Teiresias, the Delphic oracle), but –in her journey from young maidenhood to old age–Alcestis has to pretty much figure it out for herself, with the help of her fellow mortals.
As we bring The Alcestiad to life, the excitement is building and all the pieces are coming together–even a full-sized Hell Mouth.
Join us: for The Alcestiad Revival!
