AUDITIONS
for our 16th Annual
Evening of Horror & Suspense
in the Old-Time Radio Tradition
Saturday, September 27, 1-4 pm Tuesday, September 30, 6-9 pm
At Augustana Lutheran Church, 5500 S. Woodlawn Avenue
Join us as we recreate the feel of a studio in the Golden Age of Radio. There will be no lines or blocking to learn: This is a call for dramatic readers who can give our audience that welcome FRISSON for a frosty late October evening. (The show dates are Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25.) We’ll also need a team of cunning sound effects creators for our live Foley sound effects.
No preparation necessary. Readings will be provided. You do not need to stay the whole time, but plan to give at least a half an hour to your audition.
We are committed to nontraditional casting. Actors of all genders, races, communities, ages, and backgrounds are encouraged to audition.
Very curious as a librarian to learn more about the live reading.
Hi, Scott — I’m glad to answer any questions, but here are the basics: We typically do a mix of actual radio plays from the 1930s to 1960, and older scary stories that we adapt for this purpose. Actors have their scripts onstage with them, and the sound effects crew sits at a table and does live Foley sound effects with various objects. There are also songs and a few parody commercials, either on a general Halloween theme or tied to the plays we’re reading. Were you interested in auditioning or attending — or just curious?
What do i need for the audition?, do i need a song to audition
Hi, Olivia. You don’t need to bring anything, and no singing is required. Readings will be provided, and instead of an actor resume or CV, we have a form you fill out in person to let us know of any conflicts, prior acting experience, etc. Let us know if you have any other questions!
