Seeking short original plays for our New Works Mini-Festival

October 7, 2026 Leave a Comment

It was so much fun in 2026, we’re doing it again in 2027!

This January, as part of our Friday Staged Reading Series, we’re bringing back the New Works Mini-Festival, featuring 4 to 6 very short plays that have never been performed for an audience before. The festival will once again be produced by Marilyn Cavicchia.

Script submissions are open until Monday, November 23.

Some parameters:

1) The running time for your play should be no longer than 13 minutes. (Read your script out loud while timing it.)

2) Multiple submissions are allowed, but a maximum of one script per playwright will be selected.

3) You can decide whether you also want to cast and direct your play, or choose someone else, or have Marilyn do that.

4) Remember, your play must never have been performed anywhere before.

5) Scripts will be chosen based on what combination of lengths, themes, etc., go together to make one good hour of theater. If we don’t use yours this time, it doesn’t mean you’ve done a bad job.

6) As is typical for any staged reading, actors will read their lines from their scripts, and any blocking, costumes, props, and sets should be minimal.

7) If it’s helpful, you can include stage directions to be read aloud (and, if so, they should be part of your timing).

8) Please submit your script to Marilyn at marilyn.cavicchia@gmail.com no later than 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 23. When you send it, please indicate how many minutes long it is and whether you will direct it or have someone else in mind.

9) Selection and notification will occur by Monday, November 30. Playwrights whose scripts are selected will receive further details at that time.

10) Have fun!
